Central Connecticut softball coach Jeff Franquet has been placed on administrative leave and assistant Breanne Gleason has been named interim coach, the university announced Tuesday.
A statement from CCSU spokesman Mark McLaughlin read, in part, "Because this is a personnel issue, "there will be no further comment at this time." An athletic department spokesman also had no comment and Franquet could not be reached Tuesday afternoon.
Franquet led the Blue Devils to their first NEC tournament championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance last season, when the team finished 36-15 to set a program record for victories for the third consecutive season.
Franquet's record in four seasons at Central is 115-87-1. Originally from Lewisburg, Pa., Franquet has also been head coach at Jacksonville and Georgian Court.
Franquet and CCSU agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2016 season that was announced in June.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
