When: 11 a.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010 Casualties: Six dead and 26 injured Explosion: Powerful enough to blow out windows, crack foundations and knock items off shelves. Where: Not-yet-operational 620-megawatt Kleen Energy power plant on the Connecticut River in Middletown. Size: The 96 percent complete plant was to be one of the largest in New England in recent years. Operations: The Kleen Energy plant was meant to burn a huge amount of natural gas piped to the site, and to a lesser extent, low-sulfur oil.
