REID WATSON, GLASTONBURY
COACH: Brian Collins
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Won the CCC championship, the Class LL title (19:03) and her first State Open title, outkicking Northwestern's Annmarie Tuxbury in the final 300 meters at Hammonasset State Park to finish in 18:35. Helped her team to a Class LL runner-up finish. Runner-up at the Wickham Invitational championship race. Won individual titles at Stratton Brook and the Hartford Riverfront cross country festival. Courant's cross country runner of the year in 2009 when she finished third in the State Open and won the Nike Cross regional championships.
WATSON SAID: "I went into the season knowing I didn't have teammates like I did last year, so I went into it with a different mindset. I had to push myself a little harder each day in practice. That was different. But I got used to it. I tried to focus each day on pushing myself. I was happy with the season. Winning the State Open was a big deal for me."
COLLINS SAID: "Reid had a very good season individually and as a leader. With the graduation of Lindsay [Crevoiserat] and Cara [Dorris] more responsibility was placed on Reid. She won the CCC championship, the Class LL championship and the State Open but the best part of her season was her leadership. She encouraged and inspired many of the other runners to reach a level that they didn't know they could get to individually. I have been very fortunate to have had many outstanding athletes on the team over the years. Reid is right up there with all of them as a role model and is one of the best runners ever at Glastonbury High."
UP NEXT: Will run indoor and outdoor track. Will run in college but still deciding where to go.
IN 10 YEARS: "I want to do something with medicine. I want to try and do a marathon sometime in my life."
MISCELLANEOUS: Played basketball her freshman and sophomore years. Played soccer as a youngster. Runs both outdoor and indoor track and won Class LL 3,200 indoor title and helped her team to the championship. National Honor Society member. Has two brothers, one sister.
