The weather was weird: it started out fall-like and beautiful for the opening Haddad Windham Invitational, the Hartford Riverfront Festival had to be moved to Keney Park because of flooding from Hurricane Irene, it was 80 degrees and humid for the Wickham Invitational Oct. 8 and freezing and snowy three weeks later for the class championship meets at Wickham Park. Three championships the Class SS boys and the Class S and SS girls were postponed by the Oct. 29 snowstorm. The storm did so much damage to the course at Wickham Park that the State Open and three other meets were moved to Hammonasset State Park in Madison Nov. 8 and the times of the meets were combined.
Senior Connor Rog of Fairfield Prep dominated the season, winning the Wickham Invitational championship race, the SCC meet, the Class LL meet and the State Open and he was the runner-up in New England. His Fairfield Prep team also won the Class LL and State Open title.
Northwest Catholic senior 800-meter runner Brian Poirier made his mark in cross country, as he won the Wickham Invitational unseeded race and the Class SS title (and eighth in the State Open) but finished as runner-up in a close race to Rocky Hill's Joe Crafa at the CCC championship.
The Simsbury boys won the Varsity I race at the Windham Invitational, the Stratton Brook Invite and the CCC championship.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
