2000: Greenwich High graduate Steve Young was picked by a Courant panel as Connecticut's top athlete of the 1900s. He was one of the best NFL quarterbacks of his era, winning three Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers. 2000: The Hartford FoxForce began their run at the State Armory and later would play at the Blue Fox Run golf course in Avon. World Team Tennis fans could watch Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova and Pete Sampras. The team, owned by Lisa Wilson-Foley and her husband Brian Foley, disbanded when the Foleys could not find a sponsor. 2000: Chris Gbandi and Darin Lewis were the goal-scorers and the UConn men's soccer team shut out Creighton 2-0 for its first national championship on Dec. 10 in Charlotte, N.C.
