2001: Milford Jai-Alai became the last of three Connecticut frontons to close on Dec. 12. Hartford Jai-Alai and Bridgeport Jai-Alai both closed in 1995. The sport was played in Connecticut for 25 years. 2001: Ted Christopher of Plainville became the first Connecticut driver to win the Whelen All-American Series short track national championship. He won 15 races at Thompson International Speedway that season. Keith Rocco of Wallingford became the second in 2010, winning 10 races at the Waterford Speedbowl. TOM BROWN / HC
