1987: Hartford's Marlon Starling won the WBO welterweight championship in Columbia, S.C., with an 11th-round knockout of Mark Breland on Aug. 22, 1987. 1987: Two-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker defeated three-time Wimbledon champ and four-time U.S. Open champ John McEnroe 4-6, 15-13, 8-10, 6-2, 6-2 in what was then the longest match in Davis Cup history, at the Civic Center, July 24. Becker was 19, McEnroe, 28. The match began at 4:37 p.m. and ended at 11:17 p.m., almost seven hours. 1987: The longest home run in Muzzy Field history?
