1993: Vin Baker of Old Saybrook, who scored a program-record 2,238 points at the University of Hartford, was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the eighth pick in the NBA draft on June 30. At the time, Baker was selected higher than any player from a Connecticut school in history 1993: Businessman Francis Murray, at one time a minority owner of the Patriots, made a public bid to buy the franchise and move it to Hartford in the early 1990s. Murray was unable to complete the deal. 1993: The Hartford Hellcats opened its Continental Basketball season before a record crowd of 11,762 at the Civic Center. The Hellcats, renamed the Connecticut Pride in 1995, defeated the Columbus Horizon, 98-96. The team spent one season in the IBL after the collapse of the CBA in 2001.
