1945: Charley "Doc" Robbins of Middletown ran the Manchester Road Race 50 consecutive years and 57 times overall, winning in 1945 and 1946. Robbins was a national AAU road race champion and finished third in the Boston Marathon. 1947: UConn Football joined the Yankee conference. 1947: The Naugatuck Nugget, Spec Shea, was 2-0 in the 1947 World Series and won 56 games over eight seasons with the Yankees.
