1968: If Amby Burfoot of Mystic didn't room with Bill Rodgers at Wesleyan and train with him and win Boston in 1968, who knows if Rodgers would have gone on to win four Boston Marathons and four New York City Marathons? Burfoot, a long-time editor at Runners World, also helped popularize the Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race, which he won nine times and has run 51 consecutive times. 1968: Bobby Valentine, born and raised in Stamford, was a baseball, football, basketball and track athlete at Rippowam High, but he pursued a career with the Los Angeles Dodgers after he was picked fifth overall in 1968. He played nine seasons with the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Mets and Mariners, but he carved out a long managerial career with the Rangers, Mets, Red Sox and Chiba Lotte Marines. 1969: UConn Football joined NCAA in celebrating 100 years of football by selecting an 11-member all-time team in which 130 players received votes from fans, alumni and former players.
