1991: Born in Southwick, Mass., Rebecca Lobo came to Storrs and left as the program's first national player of the year.
1991: In November Jeff Bagwell of the Astros was named National League rookie of the year. He grew up in Killingworth and played at Xavier-Middletown and at the University of Hartford, where his .413 career batting average in 1987-89 is still a program record.
