Suspect in Murder of Kalamazoo Man Charged

A man was jailed after a Kalamazoo man was assaulted and killed early Sunday morning.

At 3:23 a.m. Sunday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a report of an assault in progress in the 700 block of West Cedar Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 24-year-old Kalamazoo man suffering from extensive head trauma.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified a 34-year-old Kalamazoo man, Brian Dwight Peterson, as a suspect. He was arrested and is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail.

He was arraigned in court on Tuesday, and faces a charge of open murder with no bond.
