Willie Williams pleaded "not guilty" to a number of charges Monday, the most serious being attempted murder, for allegedly choking a female guard until she blacked out.
Williams is the man accused of robbing several gas stations in under an hour in July, and then while in jail for those crimes, he is said to have attacked a female guard.
Deputies say 20-year-old Williams was hiding behind a pillar to try to escape from jail. When the guard was making her rounds, he allegedly jumped out and choked her into unconsciousness until other inmates came to her rescue.
He pleaded "not guilty" Monday to assault and attempted murder charges related to that incident.
It was a busy day in court for Williams, those charges in district court coming down after Williams rejected a plea deal in circuit court to charges stemming from the several gas station robberies he's accused of committing.
