Who: Olga Vazquez was recently hired in the newly created position of manager of in-house programs at the Center for Creative Education in West Palm Beach.
My job matters because: Having been born and raised in Palm Beach County, this job allows me to give back to my community. In launching our "Discover Series," students 8 and 9 years old have real opportunities to discover their passion for the arts, providing a creative-rich experience growing up in South Florida.
Experience: Most recently, I worked in curriculum design and program evaluation with a concentration in arts integration, including projects for Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education. I've also worked in concert management and academic administration with not-for-profit institutions such as the Florida Grand Opera, Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, The Harid Conservatory (Music & Dance Divisions), Palm Beach County School of the Arts and the Lynn University Conservatory of Music.
Education: Bachelor's degree in music with a minor in business administration and master's degree in music from the University of Miami. I am currently completing a doctorate in education/curriculum and instruction from Florida Atlantic University.
On the job
Top goal: To expose as many young children to arts education as possible.
Professional satisfaction: Seeing kids excited to learn and thrive because of the arts and seeing their parents support these programs. It's often busy, working parents that bring their children to our facility for arts classes, but we know the experiences the children have here are worth the effort.
On the side
Married, to Claudio Jaffe, a professional cellist. We have three children. My two step-daughters are both musicians currently living in Berlin. My daughter, a seventh-grader, is involved in all of the arts.
Travel: My last great big trip out of the country was to Europe: a tour of Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
