Who: Lauren M. McGee joined Diversified Companies as manger of its real estate development and aviation divisions, underwriting prospective acquisitions, conducting demographic research and engaging with social media and philanthropic coordination.
Why the career move: As a retail agent with Marcus & Millichap, I presented a proposal to Alan and Cary Goldberg of Diversified to sell one of their retail centers. After getting to know them and their company, they offered me the opportunity to join their team. There is something very special about developing "something from nothing," creating value that wasn't so easy to see before.
Experience: Breakers in Palm Beach, in Conference Services; Agent with DeBianchi Real Estate, Fort Lauderdale; and Marcus & Millichap Investment Sales.
Education: Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton participated in its "Study Abroad" program attending American Business School in Paris, France, graduating FAU with a double major in Hospitality & Tourism and International Business & World Trade.
On the job
Top Goal: Short-term: to pre-lease every hangar in every phase of our Aviation Development at North Perry Airport before we open for business.
Professional Challenge: Familiarizing myself with the nuances of general aviation. When I was first introduced to the project, the only hangars I understood hung in my closet!
Challenge in my Industry: The time-sensitivity of the business, the volatility of the sales and rental markets, the ever-changing provisions of municipalities, the ability to understand the stringent requirements of lenders and investors and analyzing the economic feasibility of future developments are always challanges.
Favorite Place to do Business: In the lobby of a nice hotel. Everything else is too loud and difficult to find parking, plus there's WiFi.
Industry Wisdom: Must be present to win.
