Meet another member of South Florida's many-sided faith community. This week we're talking with William M. B. Fleming Jr., president of Palm Beach Atlantic University, West Palm Beach.
Q: Do you have an overall philosophy of Christian education?
A: John 14:6, where Jesus says he is the way, the truth and the life. We believe all truth is God's truth, whether you're looking at it through art or economics or philosophy or the health sciences. We're constantly trying to integrate the individual disciplines with the Christian worldview.
Q: Do you have any favorite film(s)?
A: "The Shawshank Redemption"is probably my all-time favorite. In the movie, Morgan Freeman is looking for a rock in field. Under it is a box, and in the box is a letter inviting him to come to Mexico. It's all about hope.
Second place, which will tell you something about me, might be"Cool Hand Luke."I've never been to prison and never plan to go. but the conversation in both movies is really great.
"Hoosiers" is also a great basketball film. It Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper coaching Ragtag high school kids.
Q: Favorite music? Favorite performer(s)?
A: 10th Avenue North. They're graduates of here.
Q: Do you have a hero?
A: My father. His work ethic and moral compass are the best I've ever witnessed. He was the best of the best of the best of the greatest generation.
Q: Something most people don't know about you?
A: I have a ticket for the 1964 World Series. It was printed with the Phillies on it, but the Phillies lost and the Cardinals won the division pennant.
