Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who had had a strong training camp, has thrown six interceptions in the past two practices. And they had nothing to do with missing personnel or being under a heavy pass rush. They just seemed to be bad throws.
Tannehill, however, isn't overly concerned about his three-interception practices Monday and Tuesday.
"A couple of them, we're trying throws against coverages that we haven't done," said Tannehill, who might have had his best practice of training camp in Saturday's scrimmage. "We just want to take a look at them in practice. The one early today, Cortland makes a good play," he added, referring to cornerback Finnegan.
"We're not really warm, we're not really moving fast on offense. We've got to be moving full speed as soon as practice starts."
Tannehill said it was his fault on an interception during a 7-on-7 drill Tuesday. But he had explanations for the other interceptions.
"It's a combination of a bunch of stuff," he said. "Some throws we're just trying to make in practice to see if it's something we want to move on with during the season. We have other answers on the plays, but the coaching staff wants to take a look at throws against different coverages and see if we can complete them.
"I think we've come to the conclusion we're going to move on to another route."
•G Shelley Smith was playing both RG and LG Tuesday as the OL shuffle continues. He got a look with the starters at LG late in practice.
•CB Brent Grimes had two INTs Tuesday and had a potential INT (low pass hit him in the chest) fall to the ground. He's having a strong camp.
•The offensive line, which was fruitful in Saturday's scrimmage, had a strong day Tuesday, allowing maybe two sacks of Tannehill. The OL also had a good day Tuesday in 1-on-1 drills vs. the DL, producing a draw.
•QB Matt Moore was taking snaps with the second team, meaning he might do the same Friday at Atlanta. Moore had been slowed by a right-shoulder ailment.
•WR Mike Wallace (hamstring) hinted he might not play Friday. After sitting out much of practice he ran a deep route late in Tuesday's practice. Wallace said he's "making strides" and can still "feel it just a little bit, but I feel pretty good getting in and out of my breaks. Hopefully I get that burst coming back."
TE Michael Egnew (concussion), TE Gator Hoskins (hamstring), RB Daniel Thomas (hamstring), DE Olivier Vernon (back) missed practice Tuesday for the first time. WR Wallace (hamstring), QB Pat Devlin (hamstring), WR Matt Hazel (concussion), TE Charles Clay (knee), RB Lamar Miller (unknown) were limited.
TE Michael Egnew. He's already on the bubble, and missing Tuesday's practice and possibly Friday's game due to a concussion doesn't help. The Dolphins probably keep three TEs, and Clay and Dion Sims are guarantees.
Quote of the day
"We had communication issues with the headsets but once we get that straightened out at the stadium we should be able to get the plays in quicker, break the huddle quicker, get to the line and play faster all around."
