Coach of the Year

Frank Pettineo

Comment: In his 27th season leading the Chiefs, Pettineo's team won district and regional championships, went 35-0 and won a state title, the fifth in the program's history. Pettineo's record five state titles surpassed the previous record held by the late McArthur coach John Lyzott (1979, '86, '88, '89). "I've always wanted the the record of five state titles," said Pettineo, who has a career record of 645-40 and also won state titles in 2002, '03, '05 and '11. "Lyzott taught me a lot as a coach. We had a banner year."
