Wedding day: Oct. 20, 2012
Her story: Devin Robinson, 24, grew up in Baltimore. She is an auditor for Ellin & Tucker, a public accounting and business-consulting firm. Her father, Dwayne Robinson, works in sales for Verizon, and her mother, Bobbie Robinson, is an underwriter for Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
His story: Joey Rumph Jr., 27, grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He is a technical recruiter. His mother, Sherri Coval, is a homemaker and his father, Tony Rumph, is a police officer in Boca Raton, Fla.
Their story: Devin and Joey met at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla., when Devin was a freshman and Joey was a junior. Devin was on the track and field team, and Joey was a linebacker for the football team.
"Actually, the first time we met was outside of the training room, where athletes go for injuries," says Devin. "He was flirting with me and asked to take me to Red Lobster that night."
But sparks didn't immediately fly, and the two didn't start dating until Devin's sophomore year. Eventually, Joey decided to make things official when he proposed to Devin on Mother's Day last year.
Joey proposed to Devin inside the Zales at Tyson's Corner in McLean, Va., with a pear-shaped diamond solitaire on a white gold band.
"The saleslady asked if I'd like to take a seat, and I said, 'No, I'd like to take a knee,' " says Joey.
The place: About 150 guests attended the ceremony at Morning Star Baptist Church, the bride's home church, in Catonsville. Bishop Dwayne C. Debnam officiated the ceremony.
"The ceremony was definitely my favorite part," says Devin. "I really felt a lot of the things the pastor was saying. Just walking down the aisle is a feeling I could never describe."
Her dress: Devin and her mother traveled to Frank Bernard Ltd. in Wilmington, Del., to find her wedding gown — a strapless mermaid-style gown with flowers on the bottom by Jasmine Couture.
"I fell in love with it, and that was that," says Devin.
Bridesmaids' dresses: The bridesmaids wore strapless burnt-orange mermaid dresses from Frank Bernard Ltd.
"I really loved them because I liked how they mimicked my dress," says Devin. "I love the mermaid style."
Men's apparel: Joey and his groomsmen wore traditional black Calvin Klein tuxedos from Men's Wearhouse. The groomsmen wore burnt orange vests and ties to match the bridesmaids, while Joey wore an ivory vest and tie to match the color of his bride's dress.
The reception: The bride and groom hosted their reception at the "Top of the World" observation deck of the World Trade Center in the Inner Harbor.
"We both really wanted a place with a really nice view and a lot of windows," explains Devin. "Once we saw that one, it was perfect."
Dessert: Ms. Desserts in Baltimore supplied the wedding cake, which was three-tiered with red velvet and strawberry mousse yellow cake with strawberry filling and buttercream frosting.
Music: The couple chose DJ Kermit, a friend of the family, to entertain the crowd. During the father-daughter dance, while dancing to "Your Joy" by Chrisette Michele, Devin surprised her father with a slideshow of some of their fondest memories.
"I just liked the fact that we had all of our friends and family in one place on one dance floor," says Joey. "I enjoyed celebrating the night with them."
