Outdoor weddings call for a Plan B
Outdoor weddings need special planning, like these umbrellas from creativeweddingstyle.com (Creaqtiveweddingstyle.com / October 10, 2012)
Needless to say the ceremony was moved inside at the last minute with a quick shuffle to get in before getting soaked. Now, I may not have walked down the aisle yet but I can definitely say this would have stressed me out to the ninth degree! But in fact, the bride was calm through the entire process and you honestly would have thought everything was going as planned.
So as a bride who's currently planning her outdoor ceremony, which will take place right at the beginning of hurricane season, I took away one very important lesson from this event -- plan ahead! There are a lot of things I can control, but even I understand there is literally nothing you can do to change the weather.
This means I now have a plan and you won't be catching this Type A off guard any time soon. All of my outdoor ceremony decorations will work for an indoor ceremony as well. We've discussed a set-up for an indoor ceremony to ensure all the bases are covered (videographer can film, photographer can shoot, everyone has room to sit comfortably and see everything and I have an aisle to walk down). If rain is in the forecast, bring it on, I'm ready.
This obviously is not the ideal situation and I would love to have a beautiful ceremony outside but sometimes it's important to remember the big picture. It's not about 30 minutes outside with a pretty background; it's about sharing a special moment with family and friends.
But just in case, keep your fingers crossed for sunny skies on May 25.
