My mom’s dream (and only request) for the wedding was that we go to “Say Yes to the Dress” in New York City to try on dresses. A fan of the show myself, I was super excited to go along with this request!
For those of you who don’t know the show (#SYTTD), it’s a reality program on TLC based on the experience of brides as they shop for their perfect dress at Kleinfeld Bridal in the heart of NYC. The store is larger than life, featuring some of the most unique consultants you’ll ever encounter (just check out the show to see what I mean). And there is always drama, whether it’s indecisive brides or overly picky bridesmaids.
My experience was very unlike the brides on the show! I took my mom, two (younger) sisters and three best friends (also bridesmaids) with me. My mom and sisters stayed overnight with me in NYC so we could do the entire tourist bit, and my friends took the MegaBus for the day (super convenient). My consultant at Kleinfeld was Camille -– the very best one you could ask for (again, you have to check out the show)! I had an hour to consult with Camille about my likes and dislikes, try on dresses and make a decision.
Turns out I only needed a few minutes! I HATE to admit this but I totally fell into the cliché. I bought the first dress I tried on. Now, to my defense, I did try on several other dresses during the appointment but none of them came close to the first one. It was exactly what I was looking for and I couldn’t believe Camille was able to pull this dress out of thousands based on a few details I described. I didn’t even take photos with me!
There wasn’t any crying or screaming during our consultation but I think I speak for the group when I say it was an absolutely amazing opportunity and great memory that I’ll never forget. I would take the trip a million times over!
With that, I want to also add that I did not pay a fortune for my dress. I went with a budget and left under budget. Kleinfeld dresses start at the same price point as other local boutiques and they carry great, nationally recognized designers with the latest styles and trends.
