Hockey game trumps honeymoon planning

FamilyMarriageWeddingsHoneymooning

I want my wedding to be just as perfect as possible, but I want my marriage to be even better.

People get so wrapped up in wedding planning that they sometimes forget why they are there in the first place. Keith and I have been together for almost 5 years; he is the love of my life and my best friend.  May 10, 2014, will be a day that many of our friends and family will see as a special event or a big party, but for us it’s the first day of the rest of our lives and the start of our own family.

Even though it is easy to get caught up with all the planning, I think it is important to take time to just be us and do things that we enjoyed doing before we were engaged. This week we had a lot on our agenda as far as wedding planning. We both took a day off with hopes of buying our wedding bands, planning our honeymoon and starting to register for gifts.  However, a friend offered us free tickets to the Washington Capitals hockey game. Without hesitation, we put our plans on hold.

We still have seven more months to plan these things, and they can wait. We love going to hockey games so we decided we would have a nice date night together. It’s important to focus on your relationship before anything else. After all, the wedding is only one day, and your marriage is the rest of your life.
