The Rev. Joseph Lowery

( Photo by Joey Ivansco/Atlanta Journal-Constitution ) Lowery was pastor of the United Methodist Church, in Mobile, Ala. After Rosa Parks' arrest in 1955, Lowery helped lead the Montgomery bus boycott. He was honored at the "International Civil Rights Walk of Fame" in 2004. Dr. Lowery delivered the benediction at the 2009 inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. Lowry is retired but he remains active in the civil rights movement and in Christian activities. |
