Now-and-then pictures: 36th Street in Hampden

THEN: The Benson Building, seen here in the 1950s, was Hampden's first large-scale commercial building. It was built in 1886 on the northwest corner of West 36th Street and Roland Avenue. (Walter McCardell / Baltimore Sun, 1950s)

NOW: The Benson Building, named for the family that developed much of 36th Street, was home to Benson Hardware. It is now occupied by Cafe Hon, which opened in 1992. (Jerry Jackson / Baltimore Sun, 2017)
