Ways to celebrate National Puppy Day in Baltimore

American Kennel Club

Happy National Puppy Day to all my two-legged and four-legged friends.

My name is Krishana Davis and I'm an intern at the The Baltimore Sun. Although I have a knack for fashion and politics, I never turn down a chance to pay homage to my four-legged friends. Rachel Martin, another features intern, and I will be your newly collared correspondents for Unleashed.

Today is National Puppy Day so grab a little sunblock and check out some great ways to celebrate in the Baltimore area.

  1. Food Truck Rally at the Maryland SPCA: Whether you're interested in adopting a cuddly abandoned canine or snagging food from a mobile vehicle, the Food Truck Rally is the place for you. Hosted by the Maryland SPCA at their bucolic Hampden headquarters, the confirmed food trucks include Kopper's Crowhound Burger Wagon, South Caroline BBQ, Iced Gems Creations, Gypsy Queen, Souper Freak and GrrChe. While you're there, check out the SPCA's newly renovated adoption center and the animals that need a new home. Proceeds from food sales will benefit the Maryland SPCA, which operates solely on private donations. FYI: If you are ever in a search for other food trucks, check out our food truck finder.
  2. Puppy Pictures: Snuggle up with your furry friend, grab some treats and flip over (pun intended) these photos of adorable pups. Grab your camera, snap a few shots and send them into the site. Who knows? Maybe a picture of your dog will bring someone else joy, too. (And how could it not?)
  3. Most Popular Dog Breeds: If are going to adopt a dog at the SPCA today or just like to gather little-known facts about animals, the American Kennel Club released a list of the top 10 most popular dog breeds in Baltimore as of 2011. Although the most prevelant dog didn't make the cut (can you guess who?), this list may help sway your decision in picking a new friend.

Lastly, if you are like me and still tickled by the Puppy Bowl, here are some pictures for you.

Manor Lane, a turn off of Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City, is a quiet stretch of rural road, home to the historic Doughoregan Manor as well as houses just a fraction of the mansion's size. Sheep, horses and alpacas graze in some neighbors' yards, while farther down the cul-de-sac, green lawns...
