The Maryland SPCA’s 19th annual March for the Animals, scheduled for April 27, received a kickstart in the form of a challenge gift of $5,000 from Pet+ER of Towson.

For every online donation of $40 or more received through April 10, Pet+ER will donate an additional $25, up to a total of $5,000. Donations can be made at marchfortheanimals.org, which is also were individuals and teams can sign up to participate in the march, which is a pet-friendly walk around the lake in Druid Hill Park.

The 1.5 mile walk and festival raises funds to provide care, shelter, food, spay/neuter services, and medication for homeless pets in the SPCA’s adoption center. Last year’s event raised more than $365,000, but shelter officials are hopeful Pet+ER’s gift will help best that number.

Attendees can enjoy the walk and festival, which includes a demonstration by Mid-Atlantic Disc Dogs, pet training tips and demonstrations, microchipping services for pets, a pet costume contest with celebrity judges, an agility course, and flea-less market of vendors and food. It’s always a great day!

Information, registration, and donations are all online. Hurry and donate by Thursday to get the SPCA that matching gift!
