Mega adoption event Nov. 2 and 3

Mega adoption event Nov. 2 and 3 (Anthony Castellano / Patuxent Publishing / January 23, 2010)

Seven Baltimore-area rescue groups will team up with Petco on Saturday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 3, for a mega adoption event  that hopes to pair as many homeless pets with forever families as possible.

The ASPCA says 60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats in shelters are euthanized every year, and the mega adoption event was designed to help lower those numbers in Baltimore. The weekend will include pets from seven different shelters across the area, including the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, BARCS, Harness for Hope, American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue, Animal Welfare of Howard County, Banavie Barns, and Cats R Us.

Prospective pet owners will be able to meet dogs, cats, small animals, and reptiles looking for love in new homes.

In addition to pet adoptions, there will be dog and cat weddings, ferret races, hamster ball derbies, carnival games, a dunk tank, pet talent shows, appearances by both the Orioles and Ravens mascots, photo booth shoots, games, and raffles benefitting the Petco Foundcation, which helps orphaned pets find forever homes nationwide.

The mega adoption event will be held at the Glen Burnie Petco, 6631 Ritchie Highway, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., November 2 and 3. For more information, visit petco.com/adoption.
