Meet Unleashed's new keeper -- and her pup
Molly, the spirited black lab, is also known as the Labragator (Courtesy of Kim Fernandez / December 21, 2012)
A few days later, we ran into some neighbors on the street and introduced them to our puppy. Grinning broadly, they told us they were about to join the dog-parenting club. At the time, it seemed as if everyone we knew was adding some sort of ‘doodle to the family -- Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Cockerdoodles (cockapoos, but you get the point) -- for their sweet temperaments and relative lack of shedding. My neighbors were no different, excitedly exclaiming "Labradoodle," when I asked what kind of dog they got. They then pointed to the whirling dervish on the end of my leash and asked what breed she was.
"Labragator," I blurted out. "As far as we can tell, she’s a lab-alligator mix." A new breed was christened, and poor Molly had a nickname for life.
She’s three now and has calmed down markedly as dogs do, but the name has stuck despite increasing moments of soft sweetness (and, thankfully, a lot more sleep). Full of personality, she makes me laugh all day long and loves meeting other people and their pets.
We're looking forward to getting to know all of you as we chat a few times a week here on the Unleashed blog (don’t worry -- she's a friendly ‘gator). Please submit your stories and questions or just send a note to say hi. I can’t wait to hear from you. For now, I’d love to know what nicknames your pets have and how they came to be -- post them in the comments.
