Collared today: Mason

NAME: Mason

OWNER: John and DeAnna Burke

HOW THEY MET: We found Mason through a newspaper ad for Miniature Australian shepherds.

AGE: 4

HOME: Nottingham

BREED: Miniature Australian Shepherd

BEST TRICK: The Roll. He spins in several circles before landing on the floor to roll over. He also gives kisses by standing on his hind legs.

FAVORITE ACTIVITY: Mason loves hiking at Gunpowder State Park, camping, and playing Frisbee — you can’t even say the word unless you intend to throw it a few times.

FAVORITE FOOD: Mason loves eggs, peanut-butter, and snowballs.

FUNNIEST MOMENT: Mason has a lot of funny moments, but he is rather humorous in the morning, as he “talks” to my husband to get him up. Mason will often nudge his arms and sit on my husband’s head to wake him up for his morning meal.

LOYAL AND OBEDIENT: Mason is an incredibly loyal dog. He is incredibly obedient and has nothing but admiration for anyone he meets.

IF MASON HAD A MOTTO FOR LIFE, IT WOULD BE: Don’t worry, be happy!

Some canines are content to play a quick game of fetch and then call it a day. Not these pooches! Whether they're hanging 20 on a surfboard, dribbling a soccer ball or just watching their favorite sport, these dogs know how to have fun.

Decade later, Hurricane Katrina dog right at home in Baltimore

When we picked up the 50-pound black-and-tan mixed-breed dog from the Maryland SPCA 10 years ago, we weren't sure what to expect. We hadn't met him, or even seen a picture. All we knew was that he'd spent two months in transit to Baltimore after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast.
