Oscar( Christopher T. Assaf / Baltimore Sun / March 22, 2014 )
A few weeks after Mel and Paulette Tansill's beloved cat Katie died, the couple heard meowing coming from underneath a trailer at the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville. There, huddled against freezing cold rain and wind, was a tiny kitten. Just like that, fate seemed to put them all together. The Tansills used a small cage with some food in it to rescue the kitten, who went on a trip to the vet for shots and an exam, and was named Oscar. He's now about 4 months old.
Oscar became the fourth cat in the Tansills' house, and the vet says he was probably born right around the time Katie died.
"Oscar is now busy chasing his tail, playing with a wide assortment of catnip toys, running around with [our cat] Mr. Socks and sitting with [another cat] Molly on the stairs," says Mel.
"He likes to sit on the desk in our office and play with pens whenever Paulette and I are working on the computer. And he is often seen rolling around inside a cat tree cone we have in our living room window."
Fascinated by snow falling this winter, Oscar will likely love watching birds and squirrels in the spring and summer, his happy owners say.
The little cat who started out as a stray has landed well, and his family couldn't be happier.
"Paulette and I truly feel Katie sent Oscar to us," says Mel.
