Charlotte Murray met her dog while strolling along 36th Street in her neighborhood of Hamden. "She was being walked to the SPCA by her former family, who could not keep her in their new apartment," Murray said.
Murray and the pug locked eyes and realized their chance meeting was nothing short of destiny.
Lyla Underfoot, as the lucky pug is now known, hit the jackpot on her walk to the shelter. Now part of a family that includes Murray, her husband, Jeff, and son Andrew, Lyla enjoys a big backyard at home and productive days working as shop dog and head greeter at Charlotte Elliott and the Bookstore Next Door.
"Lyla is raising money for the homeless pets at the Maryland SPCA by collecting tips," says Murray. "She's raised more than $50 by selling cuddles for $1 each."
She's also found her own social network that includes Zipper the poodle (featured here a few weeks ago), Winston the Jack Russell/pug, and Shivers the terrier.
"Her favorite activities are trotting over to Kiss N' Makeup for treats, convincing people to pet her, and sleeping under the covers," says Murray of the 2-year-old. She also has her own Facebook page (facebook.com/lylathepug) and enjoys traveling with her family.
Who'd have thought a walk through the neighborhood would result in so much happiness?
