Princess Marie( Christopher T. Assaf, Baltimore Sun photo / May 1, 2014 )
Open anything wrapped in plastic in the Van Time house, and it's pretty likely somebody's going to whistle at you. But you might be surprised where the sound is coming from.
"All crinkles mean treats to her," says Sarah Van Time about Princess Marie, the family's 2-year-old guinea pig.
Princess Marie was originally with a nearby family that also had two large dogs. The dogs saw the little guinea pig as a potential snack. And at the same time two years ago, Sarah's daughter, Maggie, was turning 9 and wanted one thing for her birthday: a pet with fur. The stars aligned, and Princess came to live with the family in Annelid.
Princess loves snuggling up in the crook of Maggie's neck and hiding under her hair. She's also quite popular -- Maggie's brothers, Isaiah, 6, and Sam, 14, have begun lobbying for their own little pets (Mom says she's not entirely opposed; but they're working on Dad, Scott Van Time).
To have your pet -- including hamsters, snakes, horses, guinea pigs and the like -- considered for Collared, email information to firstname.lastname@example.org.
