Jenny( Christopher T. Assaf, Baltimore Sun / October 29, 2013 )
When people meet Jenny the calico cat, they can't believe she's 20 years old. That's because she loves to run through her Timonium house, jump up onto sofas and chairs, and stir up trouble satiating her strong curiosity about everything.
"She is frequently active in the middle of the night," says her owner, Cynthia Linthicum, who shares Jenny and their home with boyfriend Bill Deford. "While tending to sleep during the day, she will not turn down an offer to be brushed or to play."
Linthicum and Deford adopted Jenny from Deford's son, Mac, who had to leave her for very long days while on duty with the Coast Guard in Charleston, S.C.
"Mac was relieved," says Linthicum. "No one wanted his old cat."
Jenny settled right into her new home, spending the first day running up and down the stairs and from room to room before settling in the sun room.
These days, she appears at 9 a.m. sharp to settle in a sunny spot beneath a bedroom window. She's also quite a communicator -- meowing, screeching, whimpering, and making a siren-like noise to get what she wants when she wants it.
"Each of her vocalizations alerts us to the need for more Cat Chow, Gravy Sensations, water in her cup on the nightstand, attending to the sandbox which she just visited, or to just convey, 'Get up, because I'm up and I don't want you sleeping,'" says Linthicum. "Jenny is still jumping around like a kitten."
