Adopting a cat is about to get a lot easier in Harford County. The Humane Society (HSHC) there will host the grand opening of its Rescue Me! at Harford Mall on Saturday, Sept. 21, opening the doors of the region’s first deluxe cat adoption center and boutique in a shopping mall.

HSHC will share space in the mall with Baron’s K-9 Country Store, offering health-oriented pet foods, gifts, and products for dogs and cats. The Humane Society took in more than 3,000 cats and kittens last year, and hopes the new location will make it easier for potential adopters to meet and adopt their new best friends.

Haven’t considered adopting a cat? They make great companions and offer unconditional love, hours of entertainment, lots of snuggles and purring, lap warming, and built-in friendship at home. Studies have shown that companion animals can help lower blood pressure, reduce heart attack and stroke risk, and help fight depression.

Rescue Me! will offer kittens (8 weeks through 6 months old) for adoption for $125, $95 for cats age 7 months through 5 years, and $45 for cats 6 years old and older. All cats will have had their rabies vaccinations (pets 4 months and older), first set of distemper shots, feline leukemia and AIDS testing, de-wormer, flea and tick preventative, spay or neuter services, a general health exam, and a microchip for identification. Cats too young for spay/neuter will require a $50 deposit, which is returned after the surgery is performed.

Rescue Me! will be open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The grand opening on Sept. 21 will happen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Harford Mall is located at 696 Bel Air Road in Bel  Air.
