Baltimore Humane Society is without power

The Baltimore Humane Society is without power, due to superstorm Sandy. The power went out at 3 p.m. Monday.

According to the organization's website, all surgery and wellness appointments are canceled for today.

Wendy Goldband, director of marketing and public relations for the Baltimore Humane Society, said the storm caused damage in addition to the power outage.

"The animals are OK," Goldband said. "We're there caring for them. Staff is helping out. But we have no power whatsoever. The backup generator is gone, the spay and neuter center has a leaking roof and we have laundry bags by the dozens."

BGE has given no indication when the power will be restored. The Baltimore Humane Society is seeking a commercial propane generator or 5000-watt generator, loaned or donated.

" ...We also welcome volunteers who can come by and help clean cages or take laundry, " Goldband said.

The Humane Society canceled its Trick or Treat Night event Tuesday.

Goldband said Catsino, a fundraiser supporting care for homeless cats, is still scheduled for Nov. 3 at Mother's Federal Hill Grille. The evening of gaming and dining will help one cat in particular named Popeye, who needs a surgical procedure to correct a condition that causes her to endure corneal ulcers and eye infections.
