I'm not going to lie: Mother's Day has taken me by surprise this year. Maybe it's all the hoopla of returning to the office this week after maternity leave and getting this blog launched, but I'm definitely not ready.
For the moms in my life, I'm sorry: Your presents have been ordered, but they won't be delivered in time for me to get them to you on Sunday. But you have my unending gratitude for all your love and support, especially through the challenges of the past year.
And readers, thankfully, my colleagues have you covered. Here is some of our Mother's Day content, all in one place.
-- On The Darkroom blog, Nick Tann has collected a gallery of images of celebrity mothers.
-- On the weather blog, Scott Dance has the localMother's Day forecast. (Spoiler alert: looks gorgeous!)
-- In the Taste section, Susan Reimer has easy frittata recipes for mom.
-- FindLocal has Mother's Day events collected.
-- More Mother's Day recipes from the dining page.
-- From Baltimore Diner, some Mother's Day dining options (though reservations might be dwindling by now).
-- Eileen Ambrose at Consuming Interests has some mom-related freebies.
-- From the features page, some Mother's Day gift ideas.
It's possible that for me, Mother's Day got lost in the shuffle because honestly, since my husband got home from Afghanistan in March, every day has felt like Mother's Day. Watching him with our two sons has been the true gift this spring. I don't need flowers or a necklace or even a card. I just need to sit back and watch life unfold.
(And maybe a pedicure.)
