May 29 has been dubbed 529 College Savings Day -- get it 5/29 and 529, as in the part of the tax code that allows the savings plan? -- and the College Savings Plans of Maryland (CSPM) is teaming up with the Maryland Zoo to promote awareness of the plans.

Here's what they say they have in store:

"First, on Wednesday, May 29, CSPM will be hosting a free, interactive webinar at 12:00 p.m. for anyone who is interested in learning more about Maryland’s two tax-advantaged 529 plans – the Maryland Prepaid College Trust and the Maryland College Investment Plan. During the one-hour online session, CSPM’s Executive Director Joan Marshall will be available to answer questions. Registration for the webinar is available at www.collegesavingsmd.org/529day.

Also, CSPM has partnered with the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for two exciting promotions. First, the Zoo is currently accepting entries for the “Zookeeper for a Day Giveaway.” One lucky child will win a special behind-the-scenes Zoo tour, a free annual family Zoo membership and a $529 Maryland College Investment Plan account courtesy of CSPM Registration is open through June 10, and the winner will be selected on June 11. More information and registration is available online at www.marylandzoo.org.

Finally, the Zoo and CSPM are partnering to host a 529 Day Celebration at the Zoo on Saturday, June 1. The first 529 children to enter the Zoo that day will pay a special price of only $5.29 for admission, which is more than half off the regular price. Representatives from CSPM will also be on-site at the Zoo to answer questions about saving for college using their two 529 plans. More information is available online at www.marylandzoo.org."
