Launched in 2010 in Madison, Wis., “Listen to Your Mother” is a series of live, original readings performed onstage by local community members and writers in celebration of Mother’s Day. Founder Ann Imig decided there must be more to Mother’s Day than brunch and flowers, so she set out to create an event that would showcase stories about motherhood and foster a sense of community.
Thanks largely to social media, “Listen to Your Mother” has expanded to 32 cities throughout the country including Baltimore, with each show directed, produced and performed by local residents. While most cast members are mothers and many of them are bloggers, the performances feature anyone who has a compelling story to share about motherhood. Some stories are funny, some are sad, and all are authentic expressions of the complex journey of motherhood.
“Listen to Your Mother: Baltimore” will be held Saturday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium on the campus of Mercy High School. Tickets are $10. For more information, visit listentoyourmothershow.com/baltimore.
