Baltimore County home sells without hitting the market

The sale of 6520 Banbury Road just north of the Baltimore City line for $425,000 proves that the right house for the right couple can come along when least expected. The seller of this Cape Cod in the Idlewylde neighborhood contacted realtor Ashley Richardson of Long & Foster Real Estate to see if she knew of anyone that would be interested in buying.

"Two days later, I met a couple … who were newly married, and they told me what they were looking for," said Richardson. "I said, 'I think I have just the house.' "

There was an initial visit, then a week passed. After the couple's second visit, they made an offer and as such, the house never went on the market; rather, it listed as being under contract. It sold for the asking price.

"I hate the overused word 'charm,' but this house is just oozing charm," Richardson said. "It's a quaint house, but very well laid out. There's not a wasted bit of space."

The house's three-level, 1,452-square-foot interior has a traditional layout allows ease of flow from the front covered porch to the large deck off the kitchen's French doors.

Just inside the front door, a family room/den features vaulted ceilings and built-in bookcases as well as access to an outdoor pergola-covered, private patio leading to a pond. A wood-burning stone fireplace is in the living room beyond the den, while a gas fireplace is in the kitchen, which showcases beamed ceilings, a butcher block work table, granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances

Three full baths, a master bedroom on the main level, two additional rooms on the second level and a bedroom and recreation room on the lower level complete the interior living area. A fenced-in backyard encloses the home that has been constructed of shingle and stone. Almost one-half acre ensures that the owners can add on to it at some time in the future, should they choose to do so.

"To be able to match a house with the buyer is almost like detective work — to listen to what the buyer wants from the house and find [one] that fits their wants and needs," Richardson said. "This [house] fit these buyers perfectly."
