Home design Q&A: Spring makeover ideas

Quick changes for spring

What are some easy ways to freshen the look of my house for spring without completely redecorating?

Set the stage, select a road map, create a personality … then you can change your home easily with the seasons, or for any reason! When making major purchases, buy the best quality you can afford, as these pieces will be with you for a long time.

Select upholstery fabrics in solid colors, so you can change your look easily. There are many fabrics that have rich texture and different color threads in the backgrounds that give you a creative canvas.

Then when you want a change, here are some ideas:

•Paint one accent wall a dramatic color.

•Wallpaper an entire room, a wall, even an alcove.

•Put an area rug on top of hardwood, tile, or wall to wall carpeting.

•Change pillows with each holiday or season.

•Add or swap out overhead lighting, table or floor lamps, to create a change of mood.

•Angle your furniture, or transfer a piece from another room.

•Refinish an existing piece of furniture.

•Take off the top window treatment and leave the sheers for spring and summer.
