A waterfront estate on the Eastern Shore's Harris Creek is being offered by Auction.com, with bidding for the New England-style home set to start at $2 million.
The 10,109-square-foot home on Rabbit Cove Lane sits on 8.7 acres with 1,000 feet of shoreline. There are water views on three sides of the estate.
"With development restrictions limiting the availability of waterfront property, when you find the right property with views, you buy it," said owner David Gable, who together with his wife, Jackie, worked closely with the architect and builder on the now 8-year-old home. "This is a one-of-a-kind property, and we know the new owners will love it just as much as we do."
Mary Wagner of Champion Realty Inc. is the agent for the property, now listed at $5.4 million. She said the bidding — all online at Auction.com — begins at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 and continues through the next day. A $10,000 deposit is required, and there is a reserve.
Wagner pointed out that this is not a foreclosure sale.
"[Champion] got interested in the auction process because ... working in conjunction with the auction company creates a deadline," she said. "Typically, these multimillion-dollar homes can sit on the market for years. This is a situation where [the owners] are motivated to sell and are trying something a little different."
The estate was designed to fit in with the landscape of the Chesapeake region. Care was taken to ensure privacy and tranquillity.
The home has an open floor plan with four bedrooms, six baths, a library, a fitness room and an elevator. In addition, it has two offices that could be converted into bedrooms. A great room features a wood-burning fireplace.
Exterior highlights include a pool and pool house, as well as a pier, boat lift and floating dock. There is a three-car garage.
Features include a Sub-Zero refrigerator, Wolf stove, hardwood floors, ceramic tile, two wood-burning fireplaces, a marble-floored foyer and butler's pantry. The estate is 15 minutes from St. Michaels.
"This is a grand estate, but it is not pretentious; it is not something you don't feel comfortable with," Wagner said. "It's a very large home, but it is a home."
