Historic Home Contest call for entries extended to Nov. 8

Houses with a history. That's what The Baltimore Sun is looking for.

The Baltimore region is dotted with homes that have a rich past, ranging from Federalist to Victorian to Arts and Crafts. Is yours one of them?

This fall, we are sponsoring a contest to find those dwellings that beautifully reflect the era in which they came to life — whether it be through preservation, rehabilitation or restoration.

All kinds of historic homes are eligible, including those that have been adapted for use as living space, such as converted churches, barns and carriage houses. However, homes must be owner-occupied and at least 50 years old. Entries will be judged on appearance, the use of traditional materials, historical appropriateness and style.

Because of technical difficulties, we have extended the contest entry deadline by two weeks. For contest rules and to enter your home, go to baltimoresun.com/historic, and upload at least five pictures of the house by Nov. 8.

Be sure to include images that show the exterior, interior rooms and historical details. In the caption area, include the date the property was built, the city, county or neighborhood in which your house is located, as well as any unusual history or feature of the structure. Please limit captions to 50 words or less.

Readers of The Sun will be able to see all of your pictures, but it will be a panel of judges, including local historical experts, who will select the finalists and a grand prize winner, to be featured in a coming Real Estate section. The grand prize winner will receive a two-night stay at the Hotel Monaco Baltimore.
