One Baltimore woman has found her urban oasis — in Chicago.
Deborah Robertson, 57, is the winner of the 2011 HGTV Urban Oasis, a luxurious, furnished one-bedroom residence on the 35th floor of Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago.
The home, designed by Vern Yip — a judge on HGTV Design Star, offers views of the city skyline and a contemporary look with eclectic furnishings. It has one and a half baths, a gourmet kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows. Amenities for Trump residents include a spa, fitness center, indoor pool, restaurants and 24-hour concierge.
"So excited," said Robertson, who works for the Social Security Administration and has never visited Chicago. She was surprised with the news during a visit from Yip to her Baltimore home on Monday. "I feel like I'm going to faint. I never in a million years expected this!"
Robertson's name was randomly drawn from nearly 14 million entries. She said she entered the online contest twice a day, seven days a week throughout the sweepstakes, which ended earlier this month.
The residence is the grand prize in a giveaway that is part of HGTV's series of sweepstakes, including HGTV Dream Home Giveaway and HGTV Green Home Giveaway.
The network said the entire prize package is worth more than $750,000. A check of real estate listings shows one-bedroom apartments at the Trump Tower in Chicago starting at around $550,000 with association fees of at least $500 per month.
HGTV said sweepstakes winners are responsible for all taxes.
The network plans to fly Robertson to Chicago for a tour of the home in November. She will be featured in the HGTV Urban Oasis Giveaway 2011 special that will air Thursday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m.
