A custom-designed home in West Ocean City, listed for $4.9 million, is the most recent Maryland waterfront property to be offered for sale through Auction.com.
The estate at 12933 Old Bridge Road is a modern masterpiece of glass, concrete and steel on more than an acre overlooking Isle of Wight Bay and the Ocean City skyline.
The property has a saltwater swimming pool, a putting green and a fire pit with seating area.
Owned by eyewear designer Roy Schwalbach, the 6,000-square-foot house features an open-loft style designed by architect David D. Quillin of Berlin.
"The owner travels all of the time; he is based out of New York and doesn't want to bother with the traditional real estate approach," said listing agent Alan Klatsky of Klatsky Homes. "The auction process is much easier for [him]."
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom space is constructed with wings connected by a glass "hallway." More than 4,000 square feet of Ipe decking wraps around its multistory exterior.
"Because it is such a fabulous example of modern architecture, it is mouthwatering — very sleek, almost aerodynamic in its design," Klatsky said. "Inside, it is extremely clean-lined, but at the same time, the finishes are of the highest level money can buy."
Amenities include a custom-designed, Italian-crafted Boffi kitchen, German-designed stainless-steel appliances, bamboo flooring, epoxy layered concrete flooring, walls completely lined in glass mosaic tiles from Italy, a huge master suite and dressing area, a gym and garages attached to both wings.
"This kind of house could never be reproduced," said Klatsky. "It's like nothing around it."
There are two scheduled open houses prior to online bidding, which begins Nov. 4. Bidding starts at $1.5 million. Registration at Auction.com is mandatory, along with a $10,000 deposit and proof of funds.
