Candles? Built-in lighting? Christmas lights? There are so many options for lighting an outdoor space. What you choose can make a huge difference, but design experts say many people forget about lighting. Steve Appel, of Nouveau Contemporary Goods, thinks pendants or floor lamps are the way to go. "Years ago, string lights popped up everywhere on decks and patios to illuminate areas and look festive," Appel said. "Now they are more serious, with great-looking Mediterranean styles that also can stay out braving the elements, adding character and warmth to a deck or patio."
