For those few who somehow haven't heard already, it's possible to get down on the farm in Baltimore without ever leaving the city limits.

There are now 12 farms in the city cultivating more than 10 acres of formerly vacant land, according to Slow Food Baltimore, which promotes "locally sourced, environmentally and socially responsible" food for the community.  Proponents say they expect even more growth now that the city has trimmed its red tape governing urban agriculture.

On Saturday, to celebrate the growth of the movement, advocates are staging the 2nd annual Urban Farm & Food Fair, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Civic Works' Real Food Farm, 2801 St. Lo Drive in Clifton Park. 

The free event is sponsored by Slow Food Baltimore, the Farm Alliance of Baltimore City, PNC Bank and Real Food Farm.  It will feature an urban farmers' market, local food vendors, face painting, races and games for kids and live music.

And of course, there'll be a tour of Real Food Farm and demonstrations of beekeeping, seed-planting and other agricultural techniques.
