One of the highlights of the holiday break that took me away from Read Street was a trip to see Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter movies, in his Broadway debut.

Radcliffe has held the lead role as J. Pierrepont Finch (F-I-N-C-H, as he says frequently) in the revival of "How to Succeed in Show Business Without Really Trying." I admit that I haven't seen the HP movies, so I wasn't among the fans, including my niece, who were dying to see Radcliffe in the flesh. And there were plenty, cheering his every move.

But I thought he gave a very entertaining and enthusiastic performance. He was believable as the ambitious, yet charming, corporate climber. His singing and dancing -- skills that he couldn't display as a young sorcerer -- were solid.

Unfortunately, his Broadway run will end soon. Darren Criss, who has performed in "Glee" and "A Very Potter Musical," takes over the role on Jan. 3.
