Baltimore has been facing a bit of an image problem, with several controversial stories to start the new year.
But, it’s not all bad press. Southwest Airlines magazine is planning a 24-page spread on Baltimore in its next issue, calling it “the city you’re missing.” (It’s worth noting that Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is one of Southwest’s largest hubs.)
That’s not the only praise Baltimore has gotten lately. Yes, these lists may be all slightly arbitrary, and we still make appearances on our share of negative rankings (looking at you, bed bugs). But here’s a roundup of more recent, positive, national nods for Charm City.
» Baltimore was named one of the New York Times’ 52 places to visit in 2018. The list highlighted Frederick Douglass bicentennial events, the third Light City festival and the new Hotel Revival coming to Mount Vernon.
» Baltimore was named one of Zagat’s most exciting food cities in 2017.
» Baltimore’s Mayor’s Christmas Parade was voted the No. 3 holiday parade in the U.S. by USA Today readers. (The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade in Annapolis came in one spot behind.)
» Camden Yards was voted the No. 5 nicest place in America in a Reader’s Digest poll.
