On Monday night, Baltimore did the traditional red carpet one better, with a purple carpet laid out at the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric for the VIP premiere screening of the official NFL "Super Bowl XLVII Champions: 2012 Baltimore Ravens" DVD.
The scene beforehand had some of its own highlights.
Joe Flacco, accompanied by wife Dana, was the first to arrive on the purple carpet, although not much of the carpet itself was visible thanks to the many media types who immediately swamped the Super Bowl MVP.
Ray Ricebrought along 1-year-old daughter Rayven, who posed for the paparazzi like a pro, modeling a cute purple floral frock.
Ray Lewis, brought his teenage daughter Diamond as his date. When Lewis and Jacoby Jones met up on the sidewalk outside the Lyric, the two broke out into an impromptu dance, while Jones' "Dancing With The Stars" dance partner, Karina Smirnoff looked on.
A few minutes later on the purple carpet, Smirnoff did her own fancy footwork, successively scooting — in high-high-high platforms — around the media mob that had descended on her date.
"How can you cha-cha in those?" she was asked.
"I can't, baby. I can't," she said, as she was whisked off to the Lyric's green room.
Arthur Jones admitted his feet were shod in a design by his favorite designer, Gucci. And when asked what he was wearing, Torrey Smith named a Hugo Boss suit and Louis Vuitton footwear.
"[They're] probably the most expensive things I have," he said with a laugh.
