Syed, who was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of the 1999 murder of hs ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, is in Baltimore Circuit Court this week seeking a new trial. Koenig, a former Baltimore Sun reporter, and the "Serial" team is revisiting Syed's case for an update in tandem with the three-day hearings.
Asia McClain, a potential alibi witness for Syed, testified on Wednesday, the first day of the hearings. She said that "Serial," which raised questions about Syed's conviction, convinced her she needed to speak up.
Koenig will attend all three days of the hearing, recapping with producer Dana Chivvis in the newest episodes, which will be available on the "Serial" website. (And yes, even the MailChimp ad is back.)
The podcast is also in the midst of its second season, which focuses on the story of Bowe Bergdahl, the American soldier captured by the Taliban in 2009.
